Author's Notes: This story occurs post Dirge of Cerberus and makes references to it, as well as Crisis Core, the original Final Fantasy VII, Advent Children Complete, and Before Crisis--a game released on cellphones only in Japan. As well, I've chosen to use the fan names (according to the Final Fantasy wiki) for Cloud's various swords, since they don't have official names and 'Tsurugi' is Japanese for 'sword'. As the swords are not labeled which is which on the wiki, here's the picture for your reference.

Chapter summary: Reno gets an unexpected phone call. Rufus prepares for the mission and broods over how badly he feels his father is screwing up the company.

Spoilers: Only to original game canon. I mean, if you don't know who Shinra and the Turks are, this probably ain't the story for you.

Author's notes: This chapter really just moves the storyline along and creates some tension. The first half of it came easy but the second half went through two or three edits. It initially came off too shippy. I cannot stress enough that while there will be Renoru featured in this fic, it's a sub-plot rather than the whole of the storyline. So instead I ended up with a section about how much Rufus wishes to be in control already with some patricidal tendencies. Good times, good times.

Anyway, I've been feeling the sense of unfinished business or maybe I've just missed writing about my favourite boys. In any case, I hope it's enjoyed.
