So sometimes my friends in Stargate: Atlantis fandom will talk about the "major works" of fanfiction in that fandom, like they've all read the same ones - someone will talk about "the one where X happened" and everyone else knows that they mean.
Are there major works of FF7 fanfiction, and if so, what are they? Or is the fandom too huge/been around too long for that to be true?
Alternatively, use the post to rec your favorite fics - I guess that's really what I'm after, ^^
When I was younger, it seemed like Frank Vederosa's fanfiction was widely read, but maybe it just seemed that way because it was the easiest for me to find at the time. I haven't reread it lately to see if it stands to the test of time, though.

I also need to give a special mention to Nobody by Cassiel Kelner, which is a Vincent/Reno and has some interesting Vincent characterization. FF7 yaoi sites always recced the hell out of that one, and it has stood the test of time pretty well.
There used to be this author called Kylene C. who wrote very angsty Cloud/Aerith and Vincent/Yuffie, and while most of her stories are pretty outdated, they are also sincere and sweet and I can't help but have a soft spot for them. Some of her fic is archived here, with special mention going to Ashes to Ashes, the last story she ever wrote (at least on that site), which is a dramatic AU about Aerith being destined to die over and over again. It had a huge effect on me back when it came out.
There also used to be this amazing Sephiroth-gen, which featured a more-empathetic-than-usual Hojo (see a trend here? :P) and some interesting insight to Sephiroth, but it doesn't appear to be up anywhere and I don't remember the site's name. Hell, I'm not even sure about the story's name, although the same author also wrote a Vincent-story called Dreams and Liquor, which I never read but of which title i nevertheless remember. Hmm. Anyway, that story had a huge influence on me about how Hojo and Sephiroth should be characterized.
