laceblade: Tifa of FFVII, fists up, fighting (FF7: Tifa fight)
[personal profile] laceblade posting in [community profile] ff7_fanfiction
So sometimes my friends in Stargate: Atlantis fandom will talk about the "major works" of fanfiction in that fandom, like they've all read the same ones - someone will talk about "the one where X happened" and everyone else knows that they mean.

Are there major works of FF7 fanfiction, and if so, what are they? Or is the fandom too huge/been around too long for that to be true?

Alternatively, use the post to rec your favorite fics - I guess that's really what I'm after, ^^

When I was younger, it seemed like Frank Vederosa's fanfiction was widely read, but maybe it just seemed that way because it was the easiest for me to find at the time. I haven't reread it lately to see if it stands to the test of time, though.

After this I swear I'll stop posting (this thread has just made me spend the last two hours re-living the last 13 years)...but this is very useful for trying to remember greatest hits:

OMG, thanks for sharing that link! Some of my links lead to rpgamer but I couldn't find the link to the main archive anywhere. I see that Dreams and Liquor is there and was written by Sharon Sung, but her Sephiroth-story doesn't seem to be hosted there. Which is a pity because it had a different approach to Sephiroth than most and a human (if not likable) Hojo, which for some reason seems to be my requirement for good FF7 fic.

I also second your rec of Angie's stuff, it was so good! kekkai.org in general used to be full of good authors, I remember there was someone else there too whose works I really liked, but I can't remember their name right now. But they wrote a well-known story that featured Rufus, Reeve and the Turks, which I also liked but also don't remember. Arrrgh. Angie's Memory and Dream, however, was maybe the first Reno/Rude I ever read, and it's here.

They don't link to it on their main page anymore! I actually was looking for an older fic a long while ago, and so I just googled it...and bam! There was the link independently listed as a search result. JACKPOT.

Yeah, Memory and Dream was wonderful. Reno/Rude has been my OTP since when I first go into fandom, and this fic was one of my favorite Reno/Rude fic back then. She was also the nicest person. Just so receptive and warm, and so darn talented. Really cool. I wonder what ever happened to her. Same with a lot of these authors. There have been a few discussions recently about the older days of fandom, and particularly of what ever happened to Zahra who wrote Snowfields. O_O
